The Company

G&B Signs & Services is a leading Australian road signage contractor with over 50 years of industry experience, delivering signage production, installation and maintenance across major infrastructure, construction and commercial projects.

Originally operating as Gribble & Brennan, the company has grown into a trusted partner for Tier 1 contractors, government agencies and private clients. Their capabilities span the full project lifecycle—from consultation and in-house production (including wide format digital printing) through to installation, foundations and ongoing maintenance of large-scale signage structures.

The Project

As part of the M7–M12 Integration Project, G&B Signs & Services was engaged to install and replace some of the largest guide sign faces in New South Wales.

These large-format highway signs required installation at height and across multiple locations, many positioned well off the roadway and on challenging terrain.

Objective:
Deliver safe, efficient installation of large-scale road signage while maintaining project timelines and high workmanship standards.

The Challenge

Installing major highway signage presents a unique set of access challenges, particularly on large infrastructure projects.

Key challenges included:

  • Limited access across batters and uneven terrain
  • Significant working height and horizontal outreach requirements
  • Restricted positioning areas off the roadway
  • Inefficiencies caused by constantly repositioning equipment

Traditional access equipment often struggles in these environments, where reach is limited and mobility becomes a major constraint.

The Solution

To overcome these challenges, G&B Signs utilised the GSR E290PX Truck Mounted Lift, supplied by Monitor Industries.

Designed for high-performance access in infrastructure environments, the E290PX provided the ideal balance of reach, flexibility and ease of operation.

Key Advantages:

  • Outreach of 15.6m – allowing crews to access installation points without constant repositioning
  • Working height capability of 28.7m – suitable for large overhead guide signs
  • Fast setup and intuitive controls – enabling efficient operation by experienced crews
  • Truck mounted mobility – ideal for moving quickly between multiple install locations

The standout feature for the team was the machine’s exceptional side reach, which significantly reduced downtime and improved overall site efficiency.

The Outcome

With the support of the GSR E290PX, G&B Signs was able to complete multiple large guide sign installations efficiently across consecutive night shifts once weather conditions allowed.

Results:

  • Reduced need for repositioning equipment onsite
  • Improved productivity across multiple installation points
  • Eliminated reliance on larger boom lifts in constrained areas
  • Maintained project timelines despite earlier weather delays

The ability to reach difficult locations from a single setup position played a critical role in keeping the project moving.

An additional advantage was the dry hire model, allowing G&B’s experienced operators to run the machine themselves—reducing costs compared to wet hire alternatives commonly required with other equipment providers.

Why Truck Mounted Lifts Work for Infrastructure Projects

This project highlights how truck mounted lifts with high side reach can significantly improve efficiency and safety in large-scale road signage and infrastructure installations.

For projects involving:

  • Highway signage
  • Overhead structures
  • Batters and uneven terrain
  • Limited access zones

The right access equipment can eliminate delays, reduce labour requirements and improve overall project outcomes.
